Markita Richardson
I think it is important for you all to know a little bit about the people you choose to conduct business with so let me tell you a little bit about myself. My name is Markita Richardson, and I am one of the Co-Owners of Round One Gaming Lab. Recently I decided that it was time to venture into a business and I really did not know what I wanted to do. I like to have fun and try to keep busy because I think it helps to be young at heart and a good way to do that is the interaction with the youth. I chose the Video Game business because it speaks to busy, fun and youth. One of my characteristics is I meet no strangers and I am talkative by nature, so I wanted to get into something to interact with people. I am a proud member of Second Ebenezer Church in Detroit. I believe a God centered life and foundation is important in whatever you do and that helps me to relate to people of all ages as well. I look forward to enjoying our time together on Round One Gaming Lab.

Wassup Everyone,
Some of you may know me, some of you may not. I am one of the previous owners of “1Up Gaming Lab” which was a premier source for your video game needs. I am now one of the owners of an even greater venture. Round One Gaming Lab. I’ve had a love for video games for as long as I can remember. Nintendo was my first love and I quickly enjoyed spending my days at an arcade putting countless coins into the Simpsons Arcade Game just to beat it (I did by the way LOL). Through the years that love grew and grew. The game that changed things forever was Final Fantasy 7 back in 1997. That is the greatest game ever created in my opinion. I started to fall in love with the characters and the stories that video games created. I started to find alternate ways around puzzles or bosses I couldn’t beat. I was hooked. Here I am now with a business where people of all ages can sit in a unique atmosphere and enjoy one of America’s favorite pastimes.
If you would have told me we would be HERE with video games, in a world where people make millions of dollars from streaming and playing video games competitively, I never would have believed you. If you told me I could provide for my family through other people enjoying video games on a mobile arcade. I would have never believed you, but here we are and I can’t wait to see where the future takes video games next.
BUT enough about video games here are a few fun facts about me. I was born and raised on the Eastside of Detroit where I gained my education through the Detroit Public Schools system. I graduated from Cass Tech in 2006 and Michigan State in 2011 with my Bachelors degree. YES, I BLEEEEED GREEN! I also graduated in 2013 with a Masters in Entertainment Business from Full Sail University. I am now an English and Social Studies Teacher at Brenda Scott Academy.
For me, Round One is a second opportunity to do what I couldn’t do the first time. A second chance to become a staple in Metro Detroit. You don’t always get a second-round so make sure your first round is the best one.
Can’t wait to make memories with you and your family! See ya soon!

What’s up Everyone,
I am one of the Co-Owners of Round One Gaming Lab. Growing up, playing video games played a major role in forming the bond I had with a lot of my friends. I specifically loved multiplayer games because playing with other people made the experience that much better for me. I’ve had many video game systems in my youth, and still to this day. Going to entertainment venues, I was naturally drawn towards arcade games over all other attractions. Multiplayer games introduced me early to a personality trait that I would later discover plays a major role in my life. I love teamwork and group activities.
I have known and been friends with Tyrell Slappey for almost 20 years. Starting this business together was a no brainer. We both love seeing kids happy. We both love having fun. And we both love making a difference.
I was born and raised in the city of Detroit. A graduate of Cass Technical High School, I enrolled at Wayne State University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice. I am now a Services Specialist in Child Welfare in the State of Michigan.
I look forward to meeting you and helping your family experience something they’ve never experienced before!
